The Washington women's gymnastics team battled back from a rocky start to place sixth Saturday at the Pac-10 championships, hosted by the Huskies at Edmundson Pavilion.
Stanford won the team title with 197.000 points, followed by Oregon State (196.550) and UCLA (196.200). Washington finished at 193.375.
Huskies junior Ashley Houghting scored a 9.925 on the floor, finishing second to Federal Way native Tasha Smith (9.950) of Oregon State.
Houghting and freshman teammate Haley Bogart were part of a nine-way tie for third place on the vault at 9.850.
Washington senior Nikki Waiss tied for third on bars with a season-high 9.900 in her final home meet. The Huskies finished with a 49.100 total on bars, tying Oregon State for the third-best team score.

Aleah Macon struck out 10 Oregon State batters to lead No. 23 Washington to a 1-0 win in the Huskies' Pac-10 opener at Husky Softball Stadium.
Macon (11-4) held the Beavers to three hits in her fourth shutout and 11th complete game of the season.
Washington (22-9-1) scored its only run in the third inning. With two outs, Jace Williams hit a ground-rule double to left field, then scored when Morgan Stuart blooped a single into right field.

Other softball
Seattle University, ranked 13th, dominated Chico State in a 5-0 victory, then fell 7-2 to San Francisco State in a later game in the Mizuno Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif.
Seattle U. (21-6) finished pool play at 2-3, including one shutout.
In other Mizuno results, Central Washington (12-15) defeated Chico State 7-0, lost to Sonoma State 9-5, and beat San Francisco State 5-4 to advance in the gold bracket; and Western Washington (16-10) fell 7-0 to Cal State University Dominguez Hills and 2-0 to Humboldt State for a 1-4 pool-play record.
Baseball
Chris Hopkins' 10th-inning single drove in the winning run as Oregon State took a 2-1 victory over Washington in the nightcap of a Pac-10 doubleheader in Corvallis.
In the first game, Oregon State handed the Huskies (16-8, 0-2 Pac-10) an 8-1 loss.

• Erik Davis tossed a six-hitter to lead host and 17th-ranked Stanford past No. 28 Washington State (16-8, 2-3 Pac-10) 7-3. Cougars starter Jayson Miller (3-1) went 7-1/3 innings and suffered his first loss in his last 13 starts.
• Saturday's Pepperdine-Gonzaga game was postponed for weather.
Soccer
The Sounders defeated Gonzaga 4-0 in an exhibition at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.
Men's tennis
Washington (12-6, 0-2 Pac-10), was dealt a 6-1 defeat by No. 4 USC at Nordstrom Tennis Center. Andy Kuharszky upset No. 54 Gary Sacks 6-3, 6-4. Kuharszky tied Marius Lunde (1998-2001) for seventh on UW's career singles wins list with 83.
Track and field
Washington State's McKenzie Garberg placed first in discus (174 feet, 3 inches) and second in shot put (46-½) at the Sacramento State Nike Elite Invitational in California. Moreno Zapata placed first in triple jump (49-¾).
Rowing
• The Western Washington women opened their season by sweeping the varsity eight and four races at the Daffodil Regatta in Tacoma. Western's varsity eight won in 7 minutes, 59.7 seconds, and the varsity four was victorious in 8:44.9.
• The Gonzaga men won one of four races in the Pac-10 Challenge presented by Windermere in Redwood City, Calif., beating UCLA by nearly 28 seconds in the novice eight (6:43.70).
• Saturday's Washington State-Gonzaga women's dual in Spokane was canceled because of weather.
Notes
Snohomish County defeated Tacoma 123-109 in an International Basketball League game in Monroe.
• Jill Kintner of Seattle claimed a title in the USA Cycling BMX National Championships. Kintner is trying to clinch an automatic nomination to the Olympic team, and Saturday's victory added eight points to her lead in the national points rankings.
