HARTFORD, Conn. — Renee Montgomery scored 21 points and Maya Moore added 19 to help top-ranked Connecticut beat No. 4 Rutgers 66-46 Monday night and win the Big East regular-season championship in front of a near-sellout crowd of 15,779.

Tina Charles added 15 points and 17 rebounds for the Huskies, who won their second consecutive Big East regular-season championship and 13th in the last 15 seasons.

With the victory, UConn (29-1 overall, 15-1 Big East) earned the top seed in the conference tournament that starts Saturday. Rutgers (24-5, 14-2) will be the No. 2 seed. Both teams have first-round byes and don't play until the quarterfinal round Sunday.

Kia Wright scored 14 points to lead the Red Storm (16-13, 7-9 Big East) over the Fighting Irish (23-7, 11-5).

• Gonzaga swept the West Coast Conference individual honors for the season. Sophomore Heather Bowman of Spokane was selected WCC player of the year. Kelly Graves was voted coach of the year for the fourth time.

Jami Bjorklund, a former standout at University High School in Spokane Valley, was honored as defensive player of the year. Freshman Courtney Vandersloot, a Kentwood High graduate, was the WCC's top newcomer.

Bowman and Vandersloot made the 10-player all-conference team.
