Western Washington men's basketball starting guard Andrew Ready has been suspended from the team pending resolution of a domestic-assault case.
Ready, a junior from Chicago who transferred to Western this fall from Bakersfield (Calif.) College, had started all seven games this season. He was arrested on Dec. 7 after a domestic dispute and was charged with assault-domestic violence in a hearing Friday. The trial will be March 10.
"We will continue to monitor the situation," said Western coach Brad Jackson. "For now, Andrew will concentrate on this matter and his academics."
Ready, who was averaging 9.1 points and team highs of 3.1 assists and 2.4 steals, will not be with the team when it travels to Las Vegas to play in the Great Western Shootout against Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday and Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday.
Summit West opens
More snow is falling in the Cascade Mountains, and enough has covered the Summit at Snoqualmie to allow Summit West to open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday.
Summit West got 4 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours, raising its base-depth total to 26 inches as of Friday.
Summit West will remain open for the rest of next week, conditions permitting. The Summit Nordic Center will also get started this weekend with a limited operation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The forecast called for up to 8 inches of new snow to fall Friday with 8 more inches to follow today.
Other local ski areas open this weekend are Stevens Pass, White Pass, Mount Baker and Crystal Mountain.
Bowling
Mitch Beasley of Bothell came in ninth after the round of 16 in the Denny's PBA Tour Spartanburg Classic on Friday at Shamrock Lanes in Spartanburg, S.C. The finish earned him a $3,200 prize.
