Olympic silver medalist Tara Kirk will return to her hometown of Bremerton today to raise awareness and funding for the Bremerton Schools Foundation, a nonprofit group that aids educational efforts not supported by taxes. She'll start in the morning at Crownhill Elementary, and go to Bremerton High in the afternoon.
Kirk, a four-time NCAA champion in the breaststroke, has been working with the foundation for four years.
SPU women win 2-0
BELLINGHAM — Forward Sarah Martinez scored a goal and assisted on another as second-ranked Seattle Pacific shut out Western Washington 2-0 Wednesday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer match.
The Vikings fell to 9-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in GNAC play with their fourth loss in five games after an 8-2-1 start.
SPU, ranked No. 2 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Top 25, remained unbeaten at 16-0 overall and atop the GNAC standings at 10-0.
Other women's soccer
Evergreen State College took an early lead, but Northwest University came back with two goals for a 2-1 victory in the Cascade Conference season finale for both teams.
Golf
• Gonzaga's Sarah Sheffield shot a final-round 75 to move into a tie for 17th at the Price's "Give 'em Five" Invitational, hosted by New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M.
The Bulldogs moved up one spot to finish 14th in the team chase at 943. Oklahoma captured the team title with a 902.
Sheffield had rounds of 76-76-75 over the 6,319-yard, par-72 NMSU Golf Course.

Chelsea Stelzmiller of UC Davis claimed medalist honors with a final-round 71 that gave her a 54-hole total of 219 and a one-stroke victory over teammate Bryana Gregory.
The tournament was the final fall competition for Gonzaga.

• The first Fred Dean Harvest Run will be conducted at Upper Woodland Park on Saturday, with proceeds funding the South Central Athletic Association. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with first race at 11. Dean, a former Huskies receiver, died Feb. 17 of a heart attack at age 55. He was involved for 15 years with the SCAA track and field teams.
