From The Associated Press

LSU was a unanimous choice for the top spot in The Associated Press rankings released Sunday, receiving all 65 first-place votes from the media panel. The last unanimous No. 1 during the regular season was Ohio State in December.

LSU is one of just four teams that started the season ranked in the top 10 and remained there. The others are No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 8 West Virginia and No. 10 USC, which became the latest team to take a tumble after a startling loss to an unranked opponent.

California is the new No. 2, with its best showing in the AP Top 25 since 1951, when the Golden Bears were No. 1.

Ohio State is No. 3 and No. 4 Boston College has its highest ranking since Doug Flutie had the Eagles at fourth in 1984. South Florida, which entered the poll for the first time three weeks ago, is now No. 5.

On Saturday, a week after half the top 10 and nine ranked teams lost, another four top-10 teams and 11 ranked teams overall went down Saturday. As a result, there are 10 teams in the latest rankings, including four in the top 10 (BC, USF, No. 7 South Carolina and No. 9 Oregon), that were unranked to start the season.

Falling out of the Top 25 were Nebraska, Clemson, Kansas State, Rutgers and Purdue.

Hawaii undefeated

Hawaii improved to 6-0 and 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference with a 52-37 win over Utah State. Backup quarterback Tyler Graunke provided spark off the bench, completing 9-of-11 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns in the third quarter and ran for another score to give the No. 16 Warriors a school-record 10 straight conference wins and their best start since the 1981 team opened 7-0.

Starter Colt Brennan walked off the field on his own power after taking a hard hit with 52 seconds left in the first half with Hawaii leading 24-14. The Heisman Trophy hopeful completed a short pass when he was drilled by linebacker Paul Igboeli.

Graunke's first pass was 38 yards to set up his 1-yard TD run that put Hawaii up 31-13. Graunke was initially ruled down with 5 seconds left in the half, but the call was overturned after a review.

The Aggies (0-6, 0-2) extended their losing streak to 12 games.

NOTES

• Missouri's dominating late-night 41-6 victory over No. 25 Nebraska on Saturday finished so late quarterback Chase Daniel was 20 when it started and 21 just minutes after the finish.

"I was one of the first to wish him a happy birthday," coach Gary Pinkel joked.

Missouri (5-0, 1-0 Big 12) held the Cornhuskers (4-2, 1-1) without a touchdown for the first time in the series since 1958.

• The second-ranked Golden Bears (5-0, 2-0 Pac-10) and 14th-ranked Sun Devils (6-0, 3-0 Pac-10) are the conference's only unbeatens.

• Texas' 28-21 defeat to Oklahoma on Saturday dropped Texas to 0-2 in conference play for the first time in 50 years. The Longhorns (4-2) have lost four straight in the Big 12 but continue their streak in the AP Top 25 — 15 consecutive weeks — mostly because every team ranked from No. 21 to No. 25 lost Saturday, leaving pollsters few options.
