Ryan Benzel, an assistant pro at Seattle Golf Club, won the final three holes to earn an unlikely halve and push the United States to a 13 ½-12 ½ victory over Great Britain and Ireland in the PGA Cup Matches at The Oconee Course in Greensboro, Ga. In the Ryder Cup-style team matches, Benzel tied with Paul Wesselingh in singles and his half-point was what was needed to push the Americans to victory and a 15-5-3 series record. Benzel finished the weekend with a 1-0-3 record.
"Benzel's match is what you think about years after this event," said U.S. Captain Roger Warren of Kiawah Island, S.C.
