Freshman Elli Reed scored the game-winner in the 81st minute as the third-ranked Portland Pilots blanked the Washington Huskies 1-0 in a nonconference women's soccer game Wednesday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Pilots goalkeeper Kelsey Davis made one save for Portland (6-1), which recorded its third straight shutout.
After 80 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Pilots capitalized on their 20th shot of the night. Senior Angie Woznuk had possession in the final third and sent a through ball to Reed, just inside the 18-yard box. UW keeper Taylor Carr came off her line to challenge Reed, who got off a shot before colliding with Carr. Reed's shot found the back of the net, giving Portland the only goal it needed.
Reed stayed on the turf for several minutes following the play. Freshman Sara Jackman then replaced Reed, who was helped off the field after scoring her second goal of the season.
Portland dominated time of possession and outshot the Huskies 22-4. The Huskies (2-5) managed only three shots in the first half and only one after the break.
MORE WOMEN'S SOCCER
Meredith Teague had two assists and Jocelyn Charette scored her first goal of the season as No. 6 Seattle Pacific earned a 4-2 victory over Saint Martin's in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match in Lacey. The Falcons improved to 9-0.
Teague set up Sarah Martinez in the 12th minute to open the scoring and crossed to Janae Godoy at 20:50. Godoy finished to the left post for her fifth goal in the last five games. She has six this season.
Teague was credited with a score in the 29th minute, giving SPU a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Charette knocked in her first goal of the season in the 66th minute. The sophomore kicked a bending ball from the left corner of the penalty box that evaded Saints goalkeeper Breanna Klasen.
Klasen was busy in the match, making a dozen saves as Seattle Pacific peppered the Saints' goal with 27 shots.
