NW Briefs | Huskies, Sounders to play exhibition

The Washington men's soccer team will play host to the Seattle Sounders in a spring scrimmage at 6 p.m. tonight at Husky Soccer Field.

The match marks the final home game of the spring for the Huskies, who have posted a 4-2-2 record during their exhibition season.

The Sounders will be the third professional USL First Division team the Huskies have faced this spring, after taking on the Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers on the road.

Seattle is preparing for its regular-season opener, against the Whitecaps Saturday in Vancouver, B.C. The Sounders' roster features some familiar faces, including former Huskies goalkeeper Chris Eylander and defender Matt Fischer.

Golf

The Western Washington men shot a second-round 7-over-par 295 to stand eighth heading into today's final round of the Cal State Stanislaus Invitational. The Vikings' Sean Packer is tied for 14th in medalist play at 2-over 146.

• The Gonzaga women shot a second-round 331 at the West Coast Conference championship in Lompoc, Calif., good for fifth place. The Bulldogs men, meanwhile, were seventh after a second-round 302.

Conference honors

• Seattle Pacific sprinter NyEma Sims was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference track and field athlete of the week.

• Western Washington's Nicole Walker (player) and Jackie Quint (pitcher) earned GNAC softball weekly honors.

• Gonzaga's Jeremy Stumetz has been named the West Coast Conference baseball pitcher of the week.

• Eastern Washington's Chloe Nelson was named to the All-Big Sky Conference women's golf second team.

• Fordham's Erin Fisher, a Woodinville High graduate, was named Atlantic 10 softball rookie of the week.

Notes

• Thomas Jun, a senior at Todd Beamer High School, has signed a letter of intent to play golf at Western Washington. Jun was eighth at the Class 4A state tournament as a junior.
