NW Briefs | Trades highlight WHL day

Both the Seattle Thunderbirds and the Everett Silvertips made moves just prior to the Western Hockey League trade deadline Wednesday.

The T-birds (19-11-1-10) acquired left wing Andre Herman from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a fifth-round choice in the 2007 bantam draft. Herman, 19, had eight goals and four assists in 39 games for Moose Jaw.

The Everett Silvertips (33-6-0-1) acquired defenseman Dane Crowley, forward Jordan Mistelbacher and a conditional third-round bantam choice from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for defenseman Eric Doyle.

Crowley, 19, a sixth-round draft choice of the Tampa Bay Lightning (168th overall), had four goals and 15 assists this season in Swift Current. Doyle, 17, had three goals and 13 assists for Everett. Mistelbacher, 16, plays in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The T-birds' game Wednesday in Prince Albert was postponed until next Wednesday because of heavy snow.

• The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe has purchased the 18-hole Dungeness Golf Course outside Sequim. No purchase price was announced. No increase in greens fees is planned for this year, a course employee said.

• The Everett Explosion of the International Basketball League has signed four players, three with local ties — former University of Washington player Donald Watts, former Everett Community College player Darrell Walker and former Puget Sound Christian College player Justin Vander Bosch. Also signing was Curtis Carter, who played for the Cedar Valley Jaguars of the IBL. The team also signed a three-year deal with KRKO radio to broadcast games.
