NW brief: No. 11 CWU volleyball stops Seattle Pacific

Cristina Null had a game-high 15 blocks as the 11th-ranked Central Washington volleyball team beat No. 16 Seattle Pacific 30-21, 30-26, 30-25 last night in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action in Ellensburg.

Darcy Scheidt had 14 digs for the Wildcats (11-3, 5-1 GNAC). Alyssa Given led SPU (11-4, 5-1) with 10 digs.

No Giveaway out

No Giveaway, the 60-1 shot that won the Longacres Mile in August, will not be running at Emerald Downs on Sunday in the $50,000 Muckleshoot Tribal Classic for 3-year-olds and up at 1-1/16 miles.

Trainer Grant Forster said the horse, owned by Seattle sports investor Herman Sarkowsky, had a foot bruise that developed into an abscess and had missed five or six training sessions.

Other volleyball

Sophomore outside hitter Jaime Anderson had a career-high 14 kills as Western Washington (8-6, 4-2 GNAC) beat Northwest Nazarene 30-22, 30-11, 30-24 in Bellingham.

Kristy Wigren had eight kills to lead NNU (5-9, 3-3).

Notes

Dan Maciejczak resigned as coach of the Everett Hawks football team, which he led to a 15-1 record in its inaugural season. Maciejczak cited his desire to be closer to his family in South Dakota as the primary reason for his stepping down.
