Santa Clara captures swim championship

FEDERAL WAY — With Christina Jones leading the way, the Santa Clara Aquamaids won the U.S. Synchronized Swimming National Championships yesterday at the King County Aquatic Center, their 13th consecutive title.

The Aquamaids scored 97.833 in the team final, followed by Stanford University (97.333) and the Walnut Creek Aquanuts (96.000).

Jones finished second in the solo final to Stanford's Katie Norris, 97.833 to 96.833, then paired with Andrea Nott to win the duet final with a score of 97.833. Stanford's Courtenay Stewart and Sara Lowe were second at 96.667, and Cardinal teammates Norris and Samantha Bongiovanni-Duclos were third at 95.833.

Norris, who also took home the Esther Williams Creative Achievement Award, was among the swimmers named to the national team II. Others included Stanford's Poppy Carlig, and Jessica McMahon, Alicia Rice and Layla Smith of Santa Clara.
