Longtime Seattle barista opens Capitol Hill coffee shop
Posted by Melissa Allison
Zack Bolotin figured it was either that or go back to college, and opening a coffee shop was cheaper.
"I like working as a barista and talking with people, but I like to do things my way," he said -- a surprisingly bold statement for a guy who seems very low-key.
Bolotin unveiled Porchlight Coffee last month near 14th Avenue and East Pike Street, a corner of Capitol Hill that used to be known for Dave's Appliance Rebuild but now includes Old School Frozen Custard and will soon be home to a Spanish restaurant.
Porchlight is a bright space with vibrant yellow and green paint, a skylight and two porch lights.
Bolotin offers the usual coffee drinks, made with beans from Herkimer Coffee in Phinney Ridge.
The food includes bagels with regular and vegan cream cheese and Mighty O Donuts. Bolotin used to pour coffee at Mighty O and at B & O Espresso on Capitol Hill.
