A fan too far? Starbucks store closures threaten soul of die-hard customer

Posted by Melissa Allison

Winter, whose quest to visit every Starbucks store on earth has made him the subject of articles and a 2005 documentary, is worried that after visiting 9,000 shops he's going to miss one as the chain shrinks its footprint.

"If the store closed before I visited, I would lose another piece of my soul," he told The Wall Street Journal in this hilarious article (you might need a subscription to read it).

Just as poignant are the responses from StarbucksGossip.com readers, including Seattle attorney Melody Overton, who is another vocal Starbucks fan.

At first, Overton questions Winter's motives. A few minutes later, she's in a funk: "I'm sort of having a moment of feeling like this guy puts me to shame. I've lived here for 20 years (in the City of Seattle) and still haven't visited every Starbucks in this city. I'm way too tired and incoherent at the moment."
