Paccar is recalling nearly 16,000 trucks built since January 2011 because of a Bendix brake valve that may leak in extremely cold conditions, causing brakes to overheat and potentially leading to a fire or loss of vehicle control, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced.
Bendix said it has identified the possible defect in 50,000 to 60,000 Automatic Traction Control relay valves supplied to Navistar and Volvo as well as Paccar.
Paccar's recall covers certain 2012 and 2013 Kenworth and Peterbilt models, according to its Jan. 27 notification to the safety agency. The company said it will provide a temporary remedy free of charge until Bendix develops a permanent fix.
