State's construction firms optimistic about 2012
Commercial construction companies here forecast more hiring and sooner resumption of growth than their peers nationally.
Washington commercial-construction firms feel better about the future than their counterparts elsewhere in the country, according to results of a survey released Monday.
Forty percent of Washington contractors surveyed plan to hire more workers in 2012, compared with just 32 percent nationally. Just 2 percent of Washington contractors plan layoffs; the comparable number nationwide is 9 percent.
When asked when the construction market will grow again, 21 percent of Washington contractors said 2012, while a total of 57 percent picked 2013 or 2014. Nationwide, the comparable percentages were 12 and 39.
The survey of more than 1,300 firms was sponsored by the Associated General Contractors of America and Computer Guidance Corp.
