Trader Joe's will open its first West Seattle store next year at 4545 Fauntleroy Way S.W., the company confirmed Wednesday.
The West Seattle Blog reported in April that the California-based chain, which is owned by a wealthy German family, planned to occupy the former Huling Brothers Buick location. It has about 14,200 square feet.
The chain has 16 stores in Washington, including in Ballard, the University District and on Capitol Hill.
The new store in Seattle will be just down the street from a stalled development where Whole Foods was going to open later this year.
That opening time frame is no longer realistic, according to Whole Foods spokeswoman Vicki Foley.
"We are still negotiating with the developer over the site," she said.
