2009 CEO Pay | Top stock and option awards
It's no coincidence that the top four equity-award recipients also were the four best-paid Northwest CEOs overall. Of 70 top executives who received stock and/or options in 2008 and were still on the job in 2009, 45 got smaller equity awards last year — 11 got no equity compensation at all. But the numbers can be misleading: Because many equity awards were given early in 2009, their grant-date values don't reflect the steep run-up in stock values later in the year. Here are the CEOs who received the largest stock and option awards in 2009.
| Executive | Company | Equity pay |
| Howard Schultz | Starbucks | $12,391,522 |
| James Bianco | Cell Therapeutics | 11,275,903 |
| William Morrow * | Clearwire | 9,767,350 |
| Steven Appleton | Micron Technology | 7,431,162 |
| William Lansing * | InfoSpace | 5,883,793 |
