Sony to support SD cards, not just Memory Stick

Sony camcorders and cameras will soon come with the ability to accept Secure Digital flash memory cards - the kind used by practically every other manufacturer.

LAS VEGAS —

Sony camcorders and cameras will soon come with the ability to accept Secure Digital flash memory cards - the kind used by practically every other manufacturer.

For more than decade, Sony Corp. has used only memory cards of its own Memory Stick design. Sony Electronics Inc. President Stan Glasgow says the company will continue to develop that format, and new gadgets will still have Memory Stick slots, even as the company starts making SD cards.

"It's all about giving consumers choice," Glasgow said at the International Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas.
