Minnesota governor postpones Mexico trade trip

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is postponing a brief trade trip to Mexico, saying that President Felipe Calderon has a scheduling conflict.

The Associated Press

ST. PAUL, Minn. —

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is postponing a brief trade trip to Mexico, saying that President Felipe Calderon has a scheduling conflict.

The Republican governor was due to leave Sunday.

Spokesman Brian McClung couldn't immediately say when the trip would be rescheduled. He says the state's trade office will work with the Mexican government to find another time.

The trip was to include a private meeting with Calderon on Monday and gatherings with business leaders. The focus was on promoting economic ties between Minnesota and Mexico, one of the state's largest trading partners.

Pawlenty has yet to visit Mexico in his official capacity as governor. He hosted former President Vicente Fox on an official visit to Minnesota in 2004.
