Workers at the Hawaiiana Hotel in Waikiki were recently informed of the hotel's foreclosure, bankruptcy and sale.
General manager Lisa Hookano-Holly says she knows nothing of plans for the site along Beach Walk.
Peter Savio is a developer and property manager who is managing dorm rentals at part of the Hawaiiana. He says he's learned the main hotel operation, which has been in existence since 1955, is being phased out this week.
The hotel's sign came down Monday.
Some guests were given short notice to vacate their rooms. Others were told they could stay if they paid an additional $40 a day.
