NV to receive $90 million in energy grants

Nevada will receive $90 million in stimulus grants from the Department of Energy for geothermal technology projects ranging from exploration to using wastewater to boost the power of low-temperature geothermal sources.

The Associated Press

CARSON CITY, Nev. —

Nevada will receive $90 million in stimulus grants from the Department of Energy for geothermal technology projects ranging from exploration to using wastewater to boost the power of low-temperature geothermal sources.

Nevada U.S. Sen. Harry Reid says the funding is expected to create about 1,100 jobs.

Twenty projects based in Nevada will receive $72.4 million, while another five being run by Reno-based companies outside the state will receive $20.5 million.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who announced the grants with Reid on Thursday, says the investments will "jump-start" the geothermal industry in the United States.
