Vt. to get $69 million for "smart-grid" technology
Efforts to bring Vermont's electrical grid into the 21st Century is getting a big boost.

Efforts to bring Vermont's electrical grid into the 21st Century is getting a big boost.
The state's congressional delegation says the administration of President Barack Obama is allocating nearly $69 million to Vermont.
The money is part of a $3.4 billion national investment in Smart Grid technology.
In Vermont the money will be used to expand the use of so-called "smart" electric meters from 28,000 to 300,000.
The system will enable in-home displays and digitally controlled appliances. It will also enable secure control systems for substations and generation facilities, and automate distribution and transmission grids.
