LOS ANGELES —

A major construction company is moving its world headquarters from Massachusetts to Los Angeles.

Tutor Perini Corporation made the announcement on Wednesday, saying it could bring thousands of jobs to California in the coming years.

The company was formed last year by the merger of Framingham, Mass.-based Perini Corp. and Tutor-Saliba Corp.

Perini has been based in Massachusetts for more than a century. A company executive told The Boston Globe that about 30 jobs will be lost in Framingham, but most of the 200 people who work there for subsidiary Perini Management Services will remain.

The general contracting firm reported $5.6 billion in revenues in 2008. It has worked on several projects in the Los Angeles area, including a new police station.
