The founder of Wikipedia has announced a new partnership with Hewlett-Packard's MagCloud printing service.
Jimmy Wales says the deal will allow users to publish their own magazines using content from his for-profit company, Wikia. MagCloud allows users to design and print their own magazine-style publications.
Wales announced the linkup at a conference in Jerusalem on Wednesday. He would not disclose financial terms.
Wikia hosts-user generated content on millions of sites designed for niche online communities, generating revenue through ad sales. Wales says the 5-year-old Wikia service turned its first profit last quarter, a year ahead of schedule.
Wales hopes Wikia can transform the magazine industry the way Wikipedia reinvented the traditional encyclopedia.
