Black Hills Power seeks higher rates in NE Wyoming

Black Hills Power is seeking to raise electricity rates for its 2,700 customers in northeastern Wyoming.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. —

Black Hills Power is seeking to raise electricity rates for its 2,700 customers in northeastern Wyoming.

The Rapid City, S.D.-based company said in a news release Monday that it had filed its request with the Wyoming Public Service Commission and plans for the increase to take effect April 1.

The company didn't specify the percentage of rate increase. It says the increase would add about $19 per month to the average residential customer's electric bill.

The rate increase is designed to recover costs associated with Black Hills' new Wygen III power plant near Gillette and other expenses.

A spokeswoman for Cheyenne Light, Fuel and Power, a subsidiary of Black Hills Corp., says the increase doesn't apply to the Cheyenne utility's customers.
