NEW YORK —

CBS News plans to supplement its international coverage with reports from a Boston-based startup that specializes in foreign news.

The deal with GlobalPost gives CBS access to the work of 70 correspondents in more than 50 countries.

It comes as news organizations cut back on international staff to cut costs.

GlobalPost, which launched in January to fill some of that void, is giving CBS exclusive access among commercial broadcast networks to material gathered by its correspondents. Those writers might provide video, but won't deliver full, broadcast-ready packages to CBS.

GlobalPost has partnerships with other news organizations, including the Daily News of New York and The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J. GlobalPost also distributes stories on its Web site.
