Bloom to guide manufacturing policy
In his new role, he will plan Obama's agenda to "revitalize" manufacturing jobs, according to a statement Sunday from the White House press secretary.
Ron Bloom, head of the government's auto task force, was named President Obama's senior adviser for manufacturing policy as part of an effort to boost employment in a sector where U.S. jobs have been vanishing for 30 years.
Bloom, a former United Steelworkers union adviser and Lazard investment banker, helped guide General Motors and Chrysler Group bankruptcies as part of the government's rescue of the auto industry.
In his new role, he will plan Obama's agenda to "revitalize" manufacturing jobs, according to a statement Sunday from the White House press secretary.
He will keep his role on the auto task force.
Bloom will travel with Obama today to Cincinnati, where the president is to make remarks on health care and the economy.
The new appointment may alleviate criticism from Democratic allies that the administration spent billions of dollars to prop up investment banks and did little to help average Americans.
