Video | Alaska Air animation of proposed changes
The changes would reduce flight-path length and, in turn, reduce time in the air, fuel consumption, emissions and noise.
Alaska Airlines is leading an effort to utilize satellite guidance technology at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to replace the current typical approach path (blue) with shorter, more efficient approach paths (green). The changes would reduce flight-path length and, in turn, reduce time in the air, fuel consumption, emissions and noise.
This Alaska Air animation shows possible changes to the approaches from both east and west. The new west-side approaches, Sea-Tac's most heavily used flight corridor, are currently being flight tested. The east-side approaches depicted are more speculative; details of those proposed flight paths have not yet been planned.
