AirTran seeking OK to launch Caribbean service
AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc., said Tuesday it filed applications with the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin offering service to the Bahamas, Jamaica and Aruba.

AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc., said Tuesday it filed applications with the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin offering service to the Bahamas, Jamaica and Aruba.
If approved, service to the destinations would begin later this year and early in 2010 from a combination of key cities.
In the application, the airline proposed service to Nassau, Bahamas and Montego Bay, Jamaica from Atlanta, Baltimore and Orlando. Service to Aruba would originate in Atlanta and Orlando.
More information on flights, equipment and fares will be made available upon receipt of DOT approval.
Shares ended up 20 cents, or 3 percent, to close at $6.89.
