The median grant-date value of equity awards among CEOs in place for at least two years increased 39 percent to $489,549 in 2008. But because many equity awards were given during the first half of the year, their grant-date values do not necessarily reflect the collapse on Wall Street last fall. Here are the top five equity awards for CEOs in place for both 2007 and 2008.
| CEO | Company | 2008 equity awards |
| Mark Pigott | Paccar | $9,103,247 |
| Benjamin Wolff* | Clearwire | 8,685,070 |
| Steven Appleton | Micron Technology | 7,312,505 |
| Mark Donegan | Precision Castparts | 5,681,985 |
| Dara Khosrowshahi | Expedia | 4,999,982 |
