Seattle

Eight Seattle employees were laid off from Northwest Cable News this week and three others were let go with the closure of the station's Portland bureau, though two of those three were rehired by Belo-owned stations in Seattle and Portland.

Pat Costello, station manager for KING, KONG and Northwest Cable News, said the layoffs are the result of the "horrendous economy."

Northwest Cable News anchor Meg Coyle was moved to KING, while anchor Dean Staley will remain with the cable station but increasingly fill in at KING, Costello said.

The eight people laid off in Seattle include meteorologist Shannon O'Donnell, a photographer, some producers and assignment-desk staff, Costello said. Costello said the layoffs represent 10 to 15 percent of the cable station's employees.
