OLYMPIA — Washington's unemployment rate was 6 percent last month, the highest it's been in nearly four years.

The state's jobless rate was just slightly lower than the national rate of 6.1 percent.

The numbers released today by the state Employment Security Department are up from July's unemployment rate of 5.6 percent.

The largest declines were in construction, down 1,600 jobs; retail trade, down 800; and transportation and warehousing, down 500.

An estimated 200,334 people are unemployed and seeking work in the state.
