Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad Airways emerged today as the undisclosed customer that in March booked orders for 45 Boeing planes, worth $9 billion at list prices.
The national airline of the United Arab Emirates said it has signed contracts for 35 Boeing Dreamliner 787s, and 10 777-300ER aircraft.
Another Gulf carrier, the recently launched low-cost airline FlyDubai, said it has ordered 50 Next-Generation 737-800s, worth $3.7 billion at current list prices.
Etihad Airways said in a press release that it has options for another 25 Boeing 787s and 10 Boeing 777s, and purchase rights for a further 10 Boeing 787s and five Boeing 777s. Deliveries will begin in 2011 and be completed in 2020, it said.
Etihad CEO James Hogan said the order "reflects the strength and pace of economic growth in the Emirate and the integral role Etihad will play in Abu Dhabi's future."
