The iPhone gets mostly high marks in first reviews

By Seattletimes.com staff

Does the iPhone live up to all the hype? Pretty much, according to initial reviews in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and USA Today.

Walter Mossberg in the Journal:

"Our verdict is that, despite some flaws and feature omissions, the iPhone is, on balance, a beautiful and breakthrough handheld computer. Its software, especially, sets a new bar for the smart-phone industry ..."

David Pogue in The New York Times:

"The iPhone is revolutionary; it's flawed. It's substance; it's style. It does things no phone has ever done before; it lacks features found even on the most basic phones."

Edward C. Baig in USA Today:

" ... with a few exceptions, this expensive, glitzy wunderkind is indeed worth lusting after."
