COMMENT: 2007 figures for the Seattle company include expenses related to Cascade's pending purchase by MDU Resources; those expenses reduced first-half net profit by $1.2 million, or 11 cents per share. The deal, in which MDU will buy Cascade for $26.50 a share, awaits formal approval from regulators in Washington and Oregon; Cascade said it expects those approvals sometime this summer.

COMMENT: After excluding several one-time items, the company's adjusted per-share profit of 18 cents was 2 cents below the Wall Street consensus estimate. That pushed the stock of Bellevue-based Expedia down 61 cents, or 2.5 percent, to close Tuesday at $24.20. Nonetheless, gross bookings were up 8 percent year-over-year, with European bookings up 32 percent (22 percent when the weaker dollar is factored in).

COMMENT: The Bellevue company's big revenue gain was due primarily to $609,000 of research-and-development income and $173,000 of licensing-fee income stemming from the company's terminated agreement with Wyeth Consumer Healthcare. CEO Daniel Wilds said the company was initially disappointed by Wyeth's decision to end the agreement involving extended-release ibuprofen delivery, but encouraged by the number of potential licensing and partnership inquiries from other pharmaceutical companies now interested in its program.
