Davis Wright Tremaine said today that it is absorbing a boutique law firm to bolster both its communications-law practice and its East Coast presence.

The Seattle-based firm is joining with Cole, Raywid & Braverman, a Washington, D.C.-based firm with 35 lawyers, effective Jan. 1. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The combined firm will have 455 lawyers, including about 120 practicing communications, media and technology law. The merger will double the size of Davis Wright Tremaine's Washington, D.C. office; overall, the firm will have 90 attorneys on the East Coast.

Davis Wright Tremaine, whose clients include The Seattle Times, has nine offices in Seattle, Bellevue, Portland, Anchorage, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C. and Shanghai.
