A critical look at tech and business issues. Boeing, Machinists reach accordBoeing said Sunday it had reached a tentative three-year agreement with workers at a plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn., who walked off the job Aug. 6. The company said it will cut 205 jobs, or about 43 percent of the work force there. The pact includes an 11 percent raise over three years. Union members will vote on it Nov. 27. Boeing builds flight-deck consoles for jets, including its 737, 777 and 787, at the plant. Spokesman Chris Villiers said the strike didn't affect jet deliveries because work had been moved to other facilities. Michael Minor, president of Local 2709 in Oak Ridge, didn't immediately respond to a call for comment. Boeing said it will reduce the plant's shifts from three to one. The union had opposed a contract proposal that would have allowed Boeing to outsource jobs that don't involve actual manufacturing. Copyright © 2006 The Seattle Times Company
