We asked readers what subjects they would like to read about from citizen journalists and what subjects they would write about if they were citizen journalists.
I would be very interested current affairs subjects discussed by average people. Minus the partisan rants that seem to overpopulate the Letters to Editors and Columnists offerings.
— J. Feeney, Phoenix, AZ
I'd like to read about the media from citizen journalists. Sure, they're mostly rants but it helps me to think more critically about what I get from the TV, radio and newspapers. I would write about the mainstream media. That could mean my own potshots or links to other sites with critiques. I realize it's not likely to be a popular topic at the Times.
— Ken LeBlond, Seattle
new inventions and products available for alterante fuels, power source, solar power, and recycling.
— Craig Moore, Federal Way, Wa
Transportation would be my primary topic along with the politics that go along with it. I would also like to see a highlight of different neighborhoods so we can breakdown stereotypes and gain a better understanding of those around us.
— Bryan, Des Moines, WA
If I were a citizen journalist, I would gather "good news" stories from the region and write about that. I would focus on the great stuff that happens in classrooms, not just WASL woes. I'd find examples of how young people are helping their neighbors and community, not just being self absorbed. I'd tell the stories of average moms and dads everywhere who are raising decent kids, instead of all the crimes and horrors we read about as a result of bad parenting. I'd focus on the positive which is all around us, but doesn't make it to page 1, page 12 or even in the newspaper.
— Linda Thomas, Seattle, WA
