SAN FRANCISCO — Hewlett-Packard's board adjourned an emergency phone conference Sunday without announcing a decision on Chairwoman Patricia Dunn, who faces calls to quit or be fired for ordering an internal probe that may have used illegal means to spy on board members and reporters.

The board was to meet again this afternoon.

Dunn ordered the outside inquiry to determine who had leaked company information to the media, especially as it related to the job status of former CEO Carly Fiorina.

Investigators used Social Security numbers and other personal information to impersonate HP directors and journalists and get phone-company logs of their calls.
