Tableau wins most-promising award at event

Seattle Times technology reporter

Tableau Software was named "most promising new company" Wednesday night at the WSA's industry-achievement awards, an annual event hosted by the Seattle-based technology trade group.

The Seattle data-analysis company also won most promising new technology award for VizQL; its database interaction language lets users interpret information visually. Tableau was developed by a computer-science professor at Stanford University, and received $5 million in first-round funding in 2004.

Bellevue-based Intelius won for consumer product of the year with IDWatch, a subscription service designed to protect against identity theft by monitoring unauthorized use of someone's personal data.

DatStat, a Seattle company developing research-management software, won the business product of the year award for its online survey program DatStat Illume.

Seattle online-game developer PopCap Games won for entertainment product of the year for Chuzzle, a Web-based game where, according to the company, the player pushes "googly-eyed little balls of fur" across a screen.

The award for service provider of the year went to Redmond-based Concur Technologies, whose Expense Service product aims to automate the employee expense reporting.

Finally, Seattle-based NPower won the "technology for the greater good" award. NPower is a national network of 12 non-profit groups that give technology assistance to other non-profits.
