Latest data ranks Alaska Airlines worst for on-time flights

For the second month in a row, Alaska Airlines' on-time record was the worst in the industry, with just 49.8 percent of its June flights arriving on time.

The airline's performance deteriorated from its May on-time record, when 59 percent of its flights arrived on schedule, according to U.S. Department of Transportation data released today.

The Seattle-based carrier also ranked third worst for percentage of flights cancelled, at 3.1 percent. Atlantic Southeast and Comair had worse cancellation records in June.

In May, Alaska tied with American Eagle for the second-highest percentage of cancellations, at 2.4 percent.

Alaska CEO Bill Ayer said recently that performance had deteriorated in June, but that July had shown improvement partly because the airline pulled 16 daily flights from its schedule.

During the company's second-quarter earnings conference call on July 21, Ayer said that up to that point, more than 60 percent of Alaska's flights had been on time, and fewer than 1 percent had been cancelled.
