Local books: Living 'radically local,' where to find ghosts and some seafood recipes

"The Circumference of Home: One Man's Yearlong Quest for a Radically Local Life" by Kurt Hoelting (DaCapo, $25). A Whidbey Island author recounts his attempts to shrink his carbon footprint by giving up his car and air travel, and relying instead on his bike, kayak and foot power.

"Longbourn's Unexpected Matchmaker" by Emma Hox (Rhemalda, $19.95, www.Rhe malda.com). A local author spins her own variations on the plot of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." "Out of Body," "Out of Mind" and "Out of Sight" by Stella Cameron (Mira, $7.99 each). Trilogy of New Orleans-set novels about a circle of people dealing with "the burden of having paranormal talent." Cameron lives in Kirkland.

"The Fishes & the Dishes Cookbook: Seafood Recipes and Salty Stories from Alaska's Commercial Fisherwomen" by Kiyo Marsh, Tomi Marsh and Laura Cooper (Epicenter, $19.95). Three women, two of them Seattleites, offer a "peek into the lives of the women who work in America's deadliest industry."

"My Father Was a Freedom Fighter: Gaza's Untold Story" by Ramzy Baroud (Pluto Press, $18). A memoir by a Palestinian journalist who edits the Seattle-based www.PalestineChronicle.com.

"Meeting God" by Thomas Trzyna (University Press of the South, $29.95). A Seattle Pacific University professor of English writes a novel about the Sufi guide Al Khidr.

"Pacific Northwest Haunts: A Ghost Hunter's Field Guide" by Joe Teeples (Schiffer, $16.99). A Des Moines author's guide to "spectral haunts" in Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

"Mama, Is It Summer Yet?" by Nikki McClure (Abrams, $17.95). An Olympia author-illustrator's picture book for young children, about a boy whose mother points out the signs of spring to him.
