Tacoma's Museum of Glass has a new coffee-table book on kid-designed art

A selection of new titles by Washington authors, or of local interest.

"Kids Design Glass" by Benjamin W. Cobb and Susan Linn, foreword by Dale Chihuly, introduction by Timothy Close (Museum of Glass/University of Washington Press, $40). Coffee-table book about the Kids Design Glass program at Tacoma's Museum of Glass, where once a month the glassmaking team chooses a child's drawing and translates it into three dimensions, with the kid supervising the results. Includes a DVD and a children's book that clearly illustrates the glassmaking process.

"Lakeshore Christmas" by Susan Wiggs (Mira, $21.95). Puget Sound author Wiggs' latest novel in her "Lakeshore Chronicles" is a holiday tale about a "prim librarian" having trouble directing a former child star in a Christmas pageant.

"A Creed Country Christmas" by Linda Lael Miller (HQN, $16.95). The Spokane author's ongoing Creed family saga takes a yuletide turn with a tale set in 1910 Montana about a widowed rancher trying to find a governess for his daughter.

"Original Sin and Everyday Protestants: The Theology of Reinhold Niebuhr, Billy Graham, and Paul Tillich in an Age of Anxiety" by Andrew S. Finstuen (University of North Carolina Press, $37.50). A visiting assistant professor of church history at Pacific Lutheran University "explores the power of the Christian view of human nature to shape both private and public life in American history."

"The Truly Terribly Horrible Sweater ... That Grandma Knit" by Debbie Macomber and Mary Lou Carney, illustrated by Vincent Nguyen (Bowen/HarperCollins, $16.99). The Port Orchard writer co-authors a picture book for children ages 3-7 about a boy who's in a dilemma about what to do about a horrendous sweater his grandmother knitted for him when she comes to visit him at Christmas time.

"The Twelve Prayers of Christmas" by Candy Chand, illustrated by James Bernardin (Harper Blessings/HarperCollins, $16.99). Twelve poems expressing the thoughts of Mary, Joseph the Three Wise Men and others who were witness to Christ's nativity. Illustrator Bernardin lives in Seattle. For children ages 3-7.

"Stealing Death" by Janet Lee Carey (Egmont, $16.99). A fantasy novel for children ages 12 and up by a Bellevue writer, about a boy who loses his home and family in a deadly fire. When he grapples with death itself, he finds "the key to eternal life."
