Does Boeing pay state sales tax on those Dreamliners?

Posted by Dominic Gates

A reader asked this question in the live chat just finished and I didn't give a very defintiive answer. Let me do so here.

Boeing does pay B&O sales tax on airplanes delivered out of Washington but at a reduced rate thanks to the 787 incentive package from 2003.

Too soggy to blog 787 delivery live, but story coming

Posted by Dominic Gates

The rain was so heavy at the 787 delivery celebration outside the factory in Everett that I quickly dismissed any thought of using a laptop.

But I'll have a story on the event ready this afternoon, including a post-event interview with Boeing CEO Jim McNerney.

ANA looking to fly 787 Dreamliner to Seattle

Posted by Dominic Gates

ANA tail from below Aug 2011.jpgSatoru Fujiki, senior vice president with ANA, said the airline is looking to open new international routes and that Tokyo-Seattle would be the "perfect market" opportunity.

He also said ANA has greatly accelerated its delivery pace, taking a dozen of the new planes by the end of next March. So a Dreamliner scheduled for Seatac could happen sooner rather than later.

Boeing promises Dreamliner wifi later, but not initially

Posted by Dominic Gates

The Dreamliner right now doesn't come with wifi connectivity.

Tom Galantowicz, Boeing's director of 787 interiors, says Boeing plans to introduce wireless connectivity for phones and other handheld devices on later 787 airplanes. No indication of when that might be.

And he said Boeing is studying how best to introduce broadband connectivity to the jet for laptops. Clearly that will take longer.

In the meantime, the plane rolls out with a wired in-flight entertainment system.

787 first delivery in Everett is DONE. ANA owns its first Dreamliner.

Posted by Dominic Gates

Dreamliner program chief Scott Fancher just opened the day's media briefings by announcing that the legal contractual delivery happened an hour ago. ANA now owns its first Dreamliner.

I'm in Everett with about 150 journalists from around the world for this day of briefings from Boeing, ANA and engine-maker Rolls-Royce.

Gathered in a big conference room, mingling before the events started I already reconnected with some great colleagues on the aerospace beat, including Flightblogger Jon Ostrower, Guy Norris of Aviation Week and Tim Hepher of Reuters.
