Boeing added eight new 737 orders but also canceled orders for three 737s and two 777s as it updated its order Web site today. None of the customers was identified.

The changes bring the year-to-date net order total to just four jets, with 93 new orders and 89 cancellations.

However, many of the cancellations are for wide-body 787s and 777s while the new orders are mostly for the much smaller and cheaper 737s. According to data from aircraft valuation firm Avitas, the market value of the canceled jets after standard buyer discounts is about $9.5 billion compared with a value of only about $6.3 billion for all the new orders.

Boeing separately announced today an order that won't register on the Web site until next week. Panamanian carrier Copa Airlines ordered 13 Boeing 737-800s, plus options for eight more. That firm order is worth $614 million at list prices, or an Avitas-estimated $376 million after standard market discounts.
