I-90 closes for Blue Angels; boat launch parking available
Posted by Nicole Tsong
With the Blue Angels soon set to zoom overhead, there are a few things Eastsiders should prepare for, including the closure of I-90.
The state Department of Transportation has released its closure times for I-90, which will be shut down to all vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists in both directions, including the express lanes, from Seattle to Island Crest Way on Mercer Island.
I-90 will be closed on:
- Thursday: 9:45 a.m. - noon; 1:15-2:30 p.m.
- Friday, Saturday & Sunday: 12:45-2:40 p.m.
The express lanes will close at 9 a.m. Thursday and at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Those lanes will reopen to eastbound traffic by 3:30 p.m. each day.
For those eager to get on the water to see the Blue Angels or hydroplane races, the city of Bellevue is offering free satellite parking for the Southeast 40th Street boat launch, with free shuttles between the launch and parking. Boaters can park at the launch at 118th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 40th Street from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Once it is full, boaters should park at Bannerwood Sports Park, 1630 132nd Ave. S.E. where shuttles will take them to the launch.
No launching is allowed after 4 p.m. Sunday, and the launching fee is $12 without a season pass. The city also reminds boaters that they must keep personal flotation devices for all passengers, children 12 years and under are required to wear a life jacket in boats less than 19 feet long, and it is illegal to drink alcohol while driving a boat.
