Be heard on Bellevue light-rail at Sound Transit workshop
Posted by Nicole Tsong
If you are still looking for a chance to tell Sound Transit just what you think of light rail options in South Bellevue, you have two more opportunities this month. The transit-agency is holding two community meetings to discuss light-rail routes, including a workshop Wednesday to talk about the community's preferences for routes on 112th Avenue Southeast.
Sound Transit recently released a study with proposals for light-rail routes along 112th Avenue Northeast, which could include a shorter downtown tunnel. The transit board said in April that it preferred a light-rail route that runs on 112th Avenue Northeast between Bellevue Way and downtown, although the City Council supports a route that would run along I-90 and the BNSF Railway.
But the 112th Avenue route would run right next to the Surrey Downs neighborhood, and its residents have been vocal about their support for the same light-rail route as the City Council, away from the single-family neighborhood just south of downtown Bellevue.
Sound Transit is asking for RSVPs for Wednesday's workshop, which will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Bellevue's City Hall, 450 110th Ave N.E. Email eastlink@soundtransit.org or call 206-398-5438.
A second open house to learn more about 112th Avenue, South Bellevue Park-and-Ride and Bellevue Way is scheduled for Wednesday, July 14. That open house also will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Sound Transit also will host a meeting on July 13 to discuss design options for Bellevue's Hospital Station. That meeting is set for 4-6 p.m. at City Hall.
