Bellevue's bikini baristas long gone
Posted by Katherine Long
Here's a final update on the bikini barista coffee shop that caused a stir in Bellevue in late November. We drove by Thursday, and the little red building is shuttered, sign-less and locked down, although a few coffee supplies were visible through the window.
Knotty Bodies Espresso raised the ire of neighbors in the Crossroads/Lake Hills community when it opened up next to Crossroads Water Park, at the intersection of Northeast Eighth Street and 164th Avenue Northeast. Neighbors were offended by the sign and by the business's location right next door to a city park. As it happened, it was also in violation of city codes because drive-through businesses are not allowed in that area of town, said Mike Brennan, director of development services.
Knotty Bodies wasn't the first Bellevue coffee stand to use scantily-clad baristas to lure business. There's another espresso stand on 130th Avenue, in an industrial part of town, where the baristas also pull coffee shots while wearing bikinis. Drive-through businesses are allowed, in that part of town, and it has not drawn any complaints, Brennan said.
