Cameras will catch Bellevue speeders starting Monday

Bellevue mailed 1,000 warning notices to drivers caught speeding on camera last month. Starting Monday, however, the warnings will turn into real citations, with an associated fine of $124.

The program is part of a pilot to improve traffic safety. The cameras, which were installed near Stevenson and Lake Hills elementary schools, capture images of the offending vehicle and license plate.

American Traffic Solutions manages the cameras for Bellevue. Before citations are mailed to the registered owners of cars photographed speeding, Bellevue Police officers will review and confirm each violation.
