Downtown Bellevue gets new bike racks
Posted by Katherine Long
Downtown Bellevue can be a hard place to ride a bike, but the city became a little more bike-friendly over the weekend with the installation of 25 new bike racks.
It's part of a larger effort to improve bicycle riding throughout the city as outlined in the city's new Pedestrian and Bicycle Transportation Plan, approved earlier this year.
The city is also coordinating bike safety fairs, establishing a commuter connection facility, installing bike loop detectors at intersections, offering urban cycling techniques classes and printing bike maps.
Looking for a better way to get around Bellevue on two wheels? The city is partnering with the free Web site MapMyRide to encourage people to submit their favorite bike routes. There are quite a few routes here that take you through the middle of downtown, so if you're looking for the best alternative to get in and around city traffic, you'll find some good suggestions. Click on the "Routes" tab at the top to see all the rides.
